Best hunting podcast, PERIOD! I’ve heard a lot of podcasts about hunting and they are typically all the same. Except this one, he is HONEST and he does his homework on each subject that he speaks on. Not to mention that he also includes the word of God as well. You have a terrific podcast sir and don’t change anything. Thanks for what you are doing!

Without this podcast, I may not have started hunting. George breaks down hunting for people with little to no experience in a way that I haven’t found with other podcasts, articles, videos, etc. I really appreciate how thorough he is with each topic he covers, yet when he goes into detail he’s not talking to the listener as if they have years of experience. This truly is the New Hunters Guide, and I’d suggest anybody new to hunting start with this podcast.

I just wanted to thank you for all your hard work. Your podcast has been an absolute pleasure to hear, and I have listened to every episode. As a new hunter who has been trying to find a mentor for a couple years to go big game hunting, your podcast has given me the confidence to go out on my own and just get started.

Best hunting podcast I know of. I’ve never heard a better hunting podcast in my life….and I’m listening to lots of them.

The best podcast for new hunters. This is the podcast YOU and I have been looking for. I am a first generation hunter, my dad didn’t hunt. George has been a mentor to me through this podcast, he’s given me direction and confidence. George goes into just the right amount information to be helpful but not overwhelming. He has answered questions I never even thought to ask, which have been super helpful… I didn’t even know enough to ask them. George – Keep up the good work, brother!

I am a brand new deer hunter and I’ve had all kinds of questions about deer hunting and I’ve been searching for a podcast and it has helped me in a lot of way more than I can explain so keep up the good work.

I’ve been listening to the podcast for several months and was able to have success on the second day of my first Turkey Hunt in Illinois with a big Tom sporting a 10.5 in beard! Thanks for the great advice. I’m hooked on Turkey hunting now, many, many thanks again George. I appreciate your style and what you do.

I just wanted to say thanks for doing this podcast. As a new hunter, I have found this podcast as a huge resource in helping me prepare, train and equip for my first turkey hunting season. I have listened for the past few months and feel this has been an invaluable resource to me. Please keep the good info flowing.

I have a wonderful double beard hanging on my wall at the cabin. I credit my ability, to bag this elusive critter, after chasing them for three seasons, to your podcasts! The NHG did a lot to shed light on so many things I was doing incorrectly! You have done exactly, what I believe the hunting industry has needed for so long, and that is to take inexperienced hunters, and even an old guy like myself, that is attempting to chase a new quarry, by the hand. No one deserves support more, for their efforts! Thank you!

As a new hunter I am very grateful for this podcast. He does an amazing job of explaining things and getting someone with little to no experience feeling confident to go out hunting. God bless and keep on putting out good information.

George, thank you. I am 66 years old and have been hunting since I was 12. I’m still learning thanks to your site. Also, you have inspired me to try waterfowl hunting, I have been scouting out spots for goose where I live in northeastern Pa. and will be out there early in September. Thanks again.

I love this podcast. I have listened to all of these episodes and some multiple times. I have many friends who mainly hunt white tail deer down south. George has been spot on with all his knowledge. He has helped me tremendously getting started into hunting. I highly recommend this podcast. Keep up the great work!

I’ve been deer hunting for about 20 years. Before this year, I turkey hunted a handful of times and I had killed 3 turkeys. So I’m not exactly a new hunter, but I still love this podcast and find it so helpful. I tagged out with 2 toms the first two mornings of spring turkey this year, and then a couple days later took a friend out and he tagged out on the first sit. I credit those three birds 100% from knowledge gained from podcasts, and this podcast was one of the best.

Love all the approaches you take into tactics/strategies/equipment and explaining the pros and cons of each. It’s also refreshing to hear somebody who talks about getting it done by just going back to the basics. With how complex the world of hunting has been getting, I myself need to be reminded that you can get it done with the bare minimum and have a ton of success. Kinda makes it fun again too. I think it’s good for even experienced hunters to be reminded of the foundational basics that can sometimes be complacently blown over while overthinking everything. Just get what you NEED and get in the woods.

Great podcast George!  I picked up hunting last year and the pandemic got me out turkey hunting a lot but no luck.  This year I was better prepared and got some to come in close in a farmer’s field where I hunt, but never in range since I was using a crossbow.  After listening to your podcast about rarely using decoys I left them at home and sure enough the first time I did a nice Jake came in right to where I was soft calling, only about 10 yards away, and was an easy shot.  Thanks for the great podcasts and practical tips for those of us that are new to hunting.  Keep up the great job!

Great show! I love this show, both the podcasts and YouTube channel. George picks relevant, interesting topics and does an in depth but efficient review of the subject. I particularly liked his shows on hearing protection. I also liked his small game 101 series. After decades of deer hunting, I’m now growing more interested is a casual walk through the woods with my shotgun or .22 to kick up a rabbit or squirrel. Thanks George!

Best hunting show for beginners. All educational and no rants and miss leading info. Don’t waste your time with other shows listen to this and then try the others.

My whole life I always wanted to go hunting but I had no idea where to start. I found your podcast at the beginning of this year and because of you, I decided this was the year I am going to go hunting for the first time in my life (I am 35 years old). I listened to all of the episodes and I even heard some episodes more than twice. I am completely clueless about hunting so I had no idea about having a meat processor ready, taxidermy ready, hunting bibs, and other information. So, I followed your advice and took notes, and by September 2020, I had mostly everything ready for my first hunting experience.

When your podcast episode about bibs came out this month, I went on the app called “Offer Up” and found a brand-new pair of Under Armor bibs, with an attached price tag of $250 and I bought them for $70.

So finally, it is Friday, November 20, 2020, in Northern Illinois, (my home state) firearm/shotgun deer season and I’m ready to go. I’m wearing my bids and I am seating on my stand. Within 2 hours, a 4-point buck is directly in front of me, 35 yards away and I took the shot. I just harvest my first deer, and because of you, I was able to gut it, take him to the meat processor, and asked for his rack.

Then on Saturday, November 21, 2020, within the 30 minutes of legal shooting time, a 6-point buck walks to the west of me, 20 yards away and I took the shot. I harvest another deer.

I have to say, what a great experience. I harvested two bucks in two days on my first-ever hunt. And I know this does not happen to everyone, and most likely I will never experience something like this again. It may be years before I shoot another deer, but I enjoyed it and I can’t wait for next season.

George, please keep doing your podcasts, you have so much great information. And after hearing your episode on duck hunting 101, I am already planning a duck hunting trip for next year. I found a great outfitter near my residence, at a reasonable price and I am taking my teenage son with me. I’ll send you an update on that trip. Thank you again and may God Bless you and your family.

Just discovered your podcast after hearing you on the Hoosier Outdoorsman podcast. I wish I had this before I started hunting 2 years ago, it is perfect for where I am in my development as a hunter. I have listed to most of your episodes in the last couple days.

I love the podcast. I am a long time hunter for deer and turkeys, I decided not too long ago to try out duck hunting, your show is perfect for learning new tips and techniques, and even rethinking what I thought I already knew. Many thanks for what you do, I can not imagine how much work goes into it, but it is truly appreciated. Many thanks.

Answers all the questions I didn’t know to ask. Great shows that break it down and help us navigate all of the things like what kind of gear I need for waterfowl hunting and what I can pass on. I’m an adult-onset hunter entering my second season of ducks, geese, and pigs. What I really appreciate about the show is that it doesn’t talk down to the new guys, doesn’t have the feel of a corporate podcast pushing their products. Refreshing and helpful.

Hey just wanted to say thanks for your podcast. I am a new middle-aged hunter who took my first Tom this spring. I live in southeast MN. It was a really tough long journey but ultimately rewarding experience. I had to get a lot of help from your podcast and many other sources to make it work out. ultimately my biggest struggle was scouting and locating birds especially on public land. I ended up taking mine on some private land that I got last minute access to.  It felt like it was a huge accomplishment. My bird weighed just over 24 pounds and it seemed massive to me.

Thanks for your podcast. I started listening this December and have listened to a lot of episodes and learned a ton. I have never hunted before but am determined to start and this is great.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Great for new hunters, especially on a budget. I am a new hunter as of the past 2 seasons. I discovered this podcast in late 2020 and immediately wished I had found a year before. No matter, I have listened to nearly all the past episodes on hunting in general and really all the deer hunting episodes. Very practical, technical but not overly so for us new guys.

Many explanations and definitions given so I could learn the language and jargon of hunting. No fluff. Budget conscious. Etc, etc. love it. If you are new to hunting or wanting to learn something new and perhaps change up some of your old patterns, you have to give this podcast a serious try. I don’t believe you will regret it.

Even for the experienced folk. I’ve been deer hunting for about 20 years. Seriously bow hunting for about the last 10. Before this year, I turkey hunted a handful of times and I had killed 3 turkeys. So I’m not exactly a new hunter, but I still love this podcast and find it so helpful. – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Excellent. I just started listening to the podcast and have found it very informative. I’m new to hunting and have found it difficult to get the right information. I’ve read multiple books, but have found they are too advanced or too basic. George’s podcast really gets to the point and helps a new hunter understand what is and is not needed.
A.T.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Informative & Entertaining! I thoroughly enjoy each of George’s podcasts, even when I don’t plan on hunting the species that he’s talking about. As an amateur hunter, I’ve enjoyed the way he cuts through the marketing and “things you should have” and tells you what you need and what you don’t (or maybe don’t need until you get more experience). Seems to me to be a man of strong faith and character, and I believe that you’ll enjoy the podcast as well!

Fantastic. This podcast taught me a lot. I am a new hunter and really leaned a lot of useful info from this series. A lot of hunting info is designed to sell products or is designed to appeal to trophy hunters. Neither approach appeals to me. This show really helps you learn about hunting.

Great podcast! I am relatively new to hunting and always want to learn real information and tips. Very down to earth and great information! Thank you!

This was essential to my success. I’m a new hunter and the only one in my family & extended family. With no one teach or guide me, this podcast was essentially my education to whitetail hunting. My first season I was able to set up a tree stand on a spot where I saw a doe almost every sit, but with no doe tag. My second season I took a young buck with a bow in Massachusetts. The education and the basics from this podcast was what I needed for success. I still listen to the podcasts on whitetails over again.

I’m 62 and my son, a police detective, is 37 and has wanted to go deer hunting for years but just didn’t know anyone with an open spot. Neither one of us has done any hunting but last summer I was able to buy a 223 acre farm and almost 1/2 of it is woods that’s filled with deer and turkey. We both listen to your podcasts and they were a big help in preparing for deer season last fall. We are now getting ready for the spring turkey season and can hardly wait for opening day here in Missouri. Thanks for all your work. It’s been a big help to us!

Excellent for new and current hunters. George does a fantastic job of presenting things in a way that they are approachable and interesting for everyone. His organization and delivery are great. Don’t neglect to check out his website, which has organized categories and notes that help you navigate all the information in a linear fashion.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Trying my hand at Spring Turkey Hunting. I’ve hunted ducks and grouse for a while but never Turkey. The enthusiasm that George has for hunting and getting people into hunting is infectious. It’s worth your time if you are new to hunting, and you might learn a few thing if you’ve been at it a while.

Great job George. I’m 48 and just starting to hunt now, my 13 yr old son will be joining me. Got a flock of about 40 turkey (Easterns) living on a nearby farm that we are allowed to hunt. So the info you provide is very helpful.

J.D.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Great information and a large variety of topics! I started deer hunting in 2020 as well as attempted predator hunting and found this podcast in 2021 when I wanted to turkey hunt in the spring for the first time.

George does a great job at keeping it simple and making hunting accessible. It doesn’t need to be fancy and complicated! Love his attitude about using gear you already have, what to look for when shopping for new gear, and getting into the woods.

The tactics and strategies he talks about are great. Once again I feel like I’ve been successful so far tagging out last year and this spring by keeping it simple and listening. I’ve been recommending this podcast to friends thinking about hunting (any type!) and I love how George just wants to grow the sport. Lots of great little nuggets on new types of hunting and little things I’m excited to try this year for deer hunting and turkey hunting going forward. Love the podcast!

Hey I just wanted to let you know I love your podcast and have been learning a lot. I’ve been getting into hunting this past year in my 20s and it’s hard to ask all my hunting questions to people who have been hunting for years. Your podcast has answered so many questions and always has great info. Thanks again for all that you do.

Hunting is new to me. I’ve been fishing and camping all my life, but my family aren’t hunters and I just didn’t know where to start. It was your podcast that helped me get a perspective on how to get started, mostly with what I already have, and keep it simple. Thank you for that.

Around September of this year, I sat with my girlfriend for the opening weekend of bow season here in Wisconsin. Prior to that, I’ve never hunted before but always had an interest in it. My parents or family never hunted or had hunting land.

Even though we didn’t have anything in bow range, I was hooked on being in the woods. I committed myself to having all of my gear ready for the opening weekend of gun season; a mere three months.

Long story short, right before last light this mature doe walked out of the woods to nibble on some cut soybeans and left me with a beautiful 75 yard, broadside shot. She took two steps after my .270 round hit and went down. What an experience!

Your podcast gave me many, many helpful tips and I was able to binge-listen to all deer related topics ranging from where/how to start hunting to field dressing. I am so thankful for your show and the work you put in to it. Now it’s time to get ready for spring turkey episodes! God bless!

Wish I had this years ago. I had gotten interested and passionate learning about hunting and it was a skill I wanted to learn but without a mentor it’s been a frustrating road at times. This podcast has validated much of the info I had to dig up for myself and taught me so much that it’s made me excited for the next deer season because I feel like I’ve got a helper now.

Awesome show! This guy has a really awesome show! He does a really good job with explaining things in detail in a way that makes sense even to new hunters. Helped me get a turkey! I’m a middle-aged new hunter. Never hunted turkey before this season. This podcast helped me tag my first turkey on my first season out – did not expect that to happen.

Very informative show for broad spectrum of hunting. Came across months back as I took on DIY duck hunting. Enjoyed listening to several episodes with the basics to hunt ducks. Just finished my third trip out and got my first duck. Thanks George!

Really Enjoying This Podcast. I first listened when I was searching for some turkey hunting content. And more recently the newer waterfowl ones – they’re fun to listen to while I’m out driving around and scouting spots right now. I think the format of these episodes are spot on for new hunters or even experienced hunters who are going after different game because it gives you small nuggets of info and you can research further to learn more. I’d recommend this to anyone looking to get started!
